Re: Motel 6 closure
I am pleased to inform you that Motel 6 will no longer operate in our town of Braintree. Their legal challenge to the Board of Health’s vote of July 13, 2017 to revoke their license to operate was dropped earlier today. Consequently, the town’s position is affirmed.
As you are aware operations at the Motel had presented ongoing issues for years. The incident of May 5, 2017 when officers of the Braintree Police Department were placed in a difficult and dangerous situation led to a temporary closure of the motel followed by a full revocation of the license by the board of health.
Today is a significant and positive event for our town. My thanks to Town Solicitor Nicole Taub and former Town Solicitor Lisa Maki for their efforts, as well as the Board of Health for their vote and the Council and townspeople for their support. These combined efforts created this result. This step today is critical for our potential redevelopment of the site. We shall examine those options over the next few months, but for now we shall savor this victory for Braintree.
