Yes, for supporting our Schools. Yes, for supporting our Public Safety officials. Yes, for investing in our town buildings, parks and roadways by supporting our Department of Public Works. Yes, for accepting the difficult but necessary path forward, with some cuts but a lot of buybacks now! Yes, to fueling our bright future ahead. I am so proud of us. We made history again tonight - the first override to pass in Braintree and it passed with 67% of voters in favor.
For my administration – while we will certainly take this win tonight, the work is just beginning. As a community we have to continue to seek out additional revenue sources that do not extend the Town’s expense burden solely on the residential tax payer. We recognize that Braintree sits squarely in the regional powerhouse market of Boston and the opportunities for us to attract new businesses and economic development are great, we just need to capitalize on them. Casting a wide net to attract businesses to Braintree and grow our tax levy through this effort will ensure we can afford the services that make Braintree, Braintree! We also recognize that we need to continue to expand our existing senior tax assistance programs – we want to keep our families here in Braintree and we know we need to seek out ways to expand affordability in our community.
I cannot wait to chart our path forward with you all – may this be the first of our many wins together.
- Mayor Erin V. Joyce
