Braintree Celebrates Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)
5/16/19 – For Immediate Release
Braintree, MA – Today, the Town of Braintree marked its second celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) access/inclusion and how people with disabilities interact with the same.
“Braintree is proud to celebrate the recent advances we have made in our digital efforts - making all town services, events and communications effective and inclusive of all people is a critical part of the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act and part of Town’s operational focus,” says Mayor Sullivan. “We will continue to expand our digital services as the technology evolves to best meet the needs of all of our residents.”
To further the Town’s goal of inclusivity and accessibility, Town and School employees who manage government websites and social media accounts met this morning at Town Hall to receive training from the Perkins School of the Blind on how individuals with disabilities use web and mobile technology and how we can better meet their needs.
Additionally, the Town will be hosting its 11th annual Community Inclusion Awards on Thursday, May 23, 2019, to honor those who have made significant efforts of
inclusion in our community. The event will be at Braintree Town Hall beginning at 6:30 PM and is open to the public.
