The Braintree Health Department would like to provide residents with updated information on COVID-19, the illness associated with the novel coronavirus, as federal, state and local officials continue to monitor the virus.
The Braintree Health Department was notified of a resident who tested positive for COVID-19. The resident received a presumptive positive test from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) that was confirmed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Braintree Health Department has been in constant contact with this individual, who has been in isolation since receiving the test result and is complying with all protocols established by DPH. Through required contact investigation and interviewing conducted by the Braintree Health Department, it was confirmed that this individual does not have children enrolled in the Braintree Public School system.
The Braintree Health Department remains in daily communication with DPH as the situation regarding COVID-19 evolves and is working directly with Mayor Charles C. Kokoros and members of the Town’s leadership team to take the necessary steps to slow the spread and transmission of the virus in the Braintree Community.
Mayor Kokoros and the Braintree Health Department would like to remind our community of the steps you can take to help prevent the transmission of any respiratory infection, including COVID-19:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching your face, eyes or mouth.
- Frequently clean commonly touched surfaces, including electronics, door knobs and countertops.
- Avoid sharing food utensils, containers and other personal items.
- Practice “social distancing” by maintaining a distance of 6 feet from others.
- Stay home from work if you are sick.
- Practice proper cough etiquette. Cover your mouth or nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, throw the tissue away and wash or sanitize your hands. If a tissue isn’t available, cough or sneeze into your elbow/upper sleeve.
