[ARCHIVED] Mayor Charles C. Kokoros Announces Town-Wide Traffic Signal Inventory Project

Traffic Website

Mayor Kokoros is pleased to announce that the Braintree Department of Public Works, in conjunction with the Office of Planning and Community Development, will be undertaking a town-wide traffic signal inventory which will provide the Town of Braintree with a powerful tool in making traffic related planning decisions in the future.

The project, which will be financed using traffic mitigation funds collected by the Planning Board from past developments, is expected to get underway in the spring of 2021.  A traffic engineering consultant will be retained to perform a detailed review of each municipally owned traffic signal system, and to compile and centralize information about the specific equipment and the operational phasing and timing at each location.

“Traffic has been and continues to be a major challenge in our community and this is the first step in addressing our congested intersections,” said Mayor Kokoros. I look forward to getting valuable information from this study to make the changes necessary to create better traffic flow.”

Once collected, the data will be extremely useful in identifying immediate actions that can be taken to improve traffic flow around the town, such as the repair of vehicle detection and malfunctioning equipment. Further, the inventory will be used as a platform to make informed decisions about future capital improvements to the Town’s traffic signals and will serve as a guide for reference when considering where best to apply future traffic mitigation efforts.
