Mayor Charles C. Kokoros will be hosting a Community Meeting to update Braintree residents on the Clean Harbors facility on Monday, June 5th at 7:30pm in the East Middle School Auditorium, 305 River Street, Braintree.

“The health and safety of the residents of Braintree is of the utmost importance to me. My office, in conjunction with the Braintree Fire Department, Braintree Police Department, Municipal Licenses & Inspections, and our Town Solicitor have been working to ensure public safety improvements are made, emergency plans are updated, and prevent future incidents at Clean Harbors. I believe it is essential to keep residents informed and I want to ensure the public understands what’s transpired and has access to state agencies that regulate these operations to address all concerns for public health and safety.” Said Mayor Charles Kokoros.

The meeting will include updates from state agencies; Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and Massachusetts Department of Public Health. They have been working over the past three months with our administration and our state delegation; Senator Keenan, Senator Timilty and Representative Cusack.

Clean Harbor’s leadership will update residents about the accidental fire and

subsequent release of flammable and hazardous materials on the night of February 16th, 2023,

at the One Hill Avenue Clean Harbors facility in Braintree. The incident cleanup and initial site improvements have been completed, and additional work is underway. Their licensed site professional, Tetra Tech will review the Immediate Response Action Completion (IRAC) Report which details the initial monitoring activities, response action activities, and the results of investigations conducted relative to ambient air testing, soil sampling, surface water sampling and air modeling. The full report can be viewed online at: https://eeaonline.eea.state.ma.us/EEA/fileviewer/Default.aspx?formdataid=0&documentid=749934

There will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions of the presenting panel. For additional information, please contact the Mayor’s office at 781-794-8100.
