Opioid Remediation Settlement Funding
The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office has reached a multi-billion-dollar resolution with multiple opioid manufacturers and distributors. These funds aim to address the opioid crisis by providing funds for prevention, treatment, recovery, and grief. Participating municipals, including the Town of Braintree, will receive Opioid Abatement Funds until 2038. In response to these funds, Braintree established an Opioid Task Force in 2022 and started the strategic planning process with an assessment phase.
Through an assessment, four categories were identified as top concerns related to opioids in Braintree:
1. Sober Living
2. Social Services (Transportation, Food Security, & Job Security)
3. Grief Support
4. Wrap-Around Services
The Town of Braintree is releasing mini-grant applications for organizations to help address these areas of concern.
The Braintree Opioid Remediation Fund Mini-Grants 2026 supports initiatives that deliver services for substance use prevention, treatment, recovery, education, and harm reduction to Braintree residents. Funding is made available through state-wide litigation against drug manufacturers and distributors.
Eligibility
Nonprofit organizations and government entities that provide opioid-related services to Braintree residents are eligible to apply for one year (12 months) of funding through this grant program. Joint proposals between eligible entities will also be considered for this Request for Proposals (RFP). Applicants must serve Braintree residents directly. Proposals that include subcontractors are not eligible for this program. To be eligible, proposals must address one of the identified areas of concern listed above as well as the specific strategy categories defined by the Massachusetts State Subdivision Agreement.
To ensure equitable distribution of the Town’s Opioid Remediation funds and promote sustainable program development, the maximum allocation per application is $25,000.00.
The Evaluation Committee will select one applicant per category (Sober Living, Grief Support, and Social Services). Wrap-around services will be provided through the Town of Braintree's initiatives. If there are funds left over after selecting top applicants, the Evaluation Committee will choose the next applicant(s) with the remaining funds. Applicants are scored based on the grading rubric found in the Request for Proposal (RFP) document.
