When detectors are in place and ready for inspection, call Lieutenant Richard J. Nigrelli to schedule an appointment for a single family home smoke and CO detector inspection. Please allow at least 2 weeks in advance of the closing to schedule the inspection.
Inspections
Inspections are done Monday-Friday. The fee is $75, payable by bank check, money order or realty company checks payable to Town of Braintree.
Note: Personal checks and cash is not accepted.
After Inspection
After a successful inspection for smoke detector, CO detector and house number compliance, the Braintree Fire Department will issue the Certificate of Compliance to bring to your mortgage closure. Certificates are good for 60 days.

- It is recommended that smoke detectors be replaced every 10 years.
- Test your smoke and CO detectors monthly and replace the batteries twice a year. Remember, when you change the clocks, change the batteries.
