Conservation Commission

Overview

The Conservation Commission is dedicated to the protection of resource areas, including wetlands, vernal pools, rivers, streams, and the wildlife that inhabits these areas. Along with the Department staff, the Commission administers the rules and regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), as outlined in the Wetlands Protection Act (WPA), 310 CMR 10, and the local Wetlands Bylaw. The Commission holds public hearings for projects—residential, commercial, business, or municipal—that involve activities within its jurisdiction. Additionally, the Conservation Commission oversees all Town conservation lands to preserve and sustain these natural ecosystems for current and future generations to use and enjoy.
